Jd Howell's past jobs
Providing inside sales support and quotation for our existing customer base, whether solicited by our outside sales group, or via online and call-in queries. The learning experience of seeing how and where our raw materials begin their life cycle is both amazing and a much larger level from past experiences. Working here I have learned how to specify and size equipment to a myriad of applications, made the acquaintance of people all over the globe and even have my fingers in an opportunity that could land on Mars, someday. And the tribal knowledge of how to build and rebuild their equipment is hard to describe. A very talented and devoted group of people, aiming to give Made in USA, a better name.
My current core focuses fall within the four areas outlined in my profile. Working and networking with other professionals, I am implementing a focus on the first three areas through collaboration and consulting means. My goal is to have a voice and maybe a seat at the table, enabling the opportunity to share my vision of a better, more sustainable planet that works for the masses, not just those with the means... My fourth area of focus, urban gardening, is a research, design and development project. I desire to design and fabricate multiple proof-of-concept systems that provide a reliable, quality hydroponic and/or soil based gardening system for urban dwellers. I desire to enable more people to eat better, self-propogated salad greens and other vegetables, as deemed feasible. I would also like to incorporate soil education into my product scheme such that people can embrace onsite composting, vermiculture and soil tilth, when applicable. Watch here for updates as to my progress...

My clients were Electrical PE's. Company sales group was divided between specs & bid sales. Sales Engineers also supported OEM clients Square D, Siemens & APC. I dealt with Siemens, supporting their private-labeled products. Primary contacts were Siemens CAM's, who organized field visits with specifiers. Additional requirements were doing take-off's, providing specification revisions and comparisons, recommendations and technical white papers. I was also responsible for developing PowerPoint presentations and related marketing materials for the purpose of ongoing Continuing Education Units of instruction. In the final months of my employment with APT I was responsible for procuring approval to bid ongoing embassy projects with the Department of Defense, serving as a member of our Product Development Process group, and OEM development of DIN rail TVSS and Intrinsic Safety Devices with TURCK GmbH.
Barre-Ruth Electronics was a private partnership between Dick Ruth and Loren Barre. Dick was the acting partner and is one of a handful of electrical engineers I know of that can assemble algorithms in his head. Dick designed and built the switchgear electronics for G&W. Dick also designed and built the BRE Capacitors Controls and RamCorder Power Quality Recorders, now owned by HD Electric. I worked for Dick as his National Sales Manager, hiring and managing a fleet of nationwide independent representatives. It was one of the most fulfilling experiences I ever had in sales because it allowed me to procure the needs of our customers and bring that information directly back to our engineering design for implementations and improvements. The feedback and response was outstanding. The company suffered a fatal blow due to a warranty and was sold to The Maysteel Company of Wisconsin in 1998. I chose not to accept a sales position as I was then living in the Orlando, FL area.
