The Director of Breeding and Canine Development oversees and directs a variety of Guide Dog for the Blind (GDB) programs that are crucial to the organization’s reputation and success. The Director creates and oversees the breeding colony development strategy including identification and selection of dogs for the breeding program, facilitating cooperative breeding agreements with other programs around the globe and overseeing programs and staff responsible for placing and managing breeders in appropriate homes. The Director develops colony-wide and individual socialization programs and plans for puppies both on campus and in raiser homes, develops and oversees training and behavior modification programs, and tracks program success, modifying practices as needed. This Director is also responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safety and proper handling of GDB puppies, breeders and career change dogs in collaboration with the Training, Canine Welfare and Neo-natal departments to ensure that policies and practices are aligned with GDBs mission and values. This position ensures GDB’s leadership in the industry by maximizing the potential for success of our dogs, staff, and mission of empowering lives through exceptional partnerships between people, dogs, and communities.
