This was a short stay. I was impressed. The LTE manufactured equipment are so compact, it can be fitted on the rear of a pick-up truck. Each component is carefully assembled by hand, and the final QC check and alignment done by a dedicated person to ensure reproducibility and consistency between installations. Joined Lomaen Medical's dynamic technical department in 2010, and under the leadership of Michael Solyom and assistance of fellow technical team mates, found myself growing more and more every day. As a result of Lomaen's fast growth, I have found myself gaining experience and knowledge like never before. New technologies, new products... Joined the newly formed company Africa X-ray Industrial and Medical, as one of three engineers. Here Mr Trappitt was a great inspiration, especially since he used to be an engineer himself... The first Christmas, the company consisted of 11 staff members. At the time I left, the head office alone boasted with more than 200 employees *Working unsupervised in South Africa and various surrounding countries, installation, commissioning, service and field repairs of Shimadzu, Comed, Apelem, Corsini, DMS, Norland, Giotto, Aloka and some other manufacturers. *Training of engineers, local and neighbouring countries *Basic application training of customers on new installations *Technical support to local and foreign engineers *Installation, commissioning, service and repair if Shimadzu CT and Angio equipment *Managing x-ray department *Attending to customer queries and complaints *Assessing employee performance * Refurbishment of old x-ray units and wet film processors * Quality assurance on refurbished units, as they were sold with a 6 - 12 month warrantee, to local and overseas markets. Everything has a start, for me it was Mr Sykes at X-Ray Imaging Services. He was a tall, wise, honest man, with whom one could talk, and get real advice. I was saddened to hear of his passing. At XIS I was taught the basics of installing, servicing and repairing of medical X-ray and fluoroscopic units as well as wet film processors. As with all things, you need a good foundation to build on.
