John Allen's past jobs
Founding designer. Led the product design from Seed to Series B, reshaping Profound for both self-serve and enterprise adoption. Also recruited the company’s first engineer and employee. Left to build my own company.
Redesigned Titan’s entire product in close collaboration with the founders, engineers, and designers—evolving the platform from self-serve finance to an AI-first wealth management experience.
I was 1 of 2 mobile app designers at Slice – a food ordering app with millions of customers who order from 20,000+ local restaurants across the US. My impact areas: - Redesigned the Home Tab around quick re-ordering of past orders - Redesigned the Explore Tab for seamless discovery of restaurants using feeds, filters, & maps - Redesigned the Shop Menus for faster navigation and more transparent order history - Redesigned the the Rewards Tab with challenges, achievements, and badges - Rearchitected the Search from lexical to semantic so results are based on the meaning of input instead of literal queries (hackathon project) I played a significant role in creating the Visual QA process to ensure that pre-production views match the intended designs prior to shipping. I've also had dozens of user research sessions to craft a modern app experience based on feedback. None of this is done by just me – I worked with over a dozen engineers, a few product managers, and senior leadership to bring our ideas to market.
We create mobile apps across categories. The model: find underserved demand, pair it with great design, ship fast.
H2L is a venture studio that builds digital marketplaces and fintech apps. I managed the development of two products: 1. A mobile-first consumer bank built in collaboration with Huntington Bank 2 An online lending platform for fix-and-flip real estate My day-to-day role continuously evolved as the studio developed its growing portfolio of companies, but I often found myself designing apps, building websites, and hacking growth. I also led the research team within H2L since the studio was founded. Our team researched how technologies can be applied within various fields, such as computer vision in cars and artificial intelligence in call centers. We created at least one report per month over the span of two years to explore how a given technology works, the industry-leading startups building that technology, and business strategies for deploying that technology. This role introduced me to the brilliance of technology startups and initiated my entrepreneurial career as a technology developer.
