Oily Wastewater Management: •Investigated a method of using UV absorbance of hexane extraction data to determine oil concentrations in simulated bilgewater •Ran a pre-acquisition assessment of the effectiveness of certain chemical additives in breaking oil-in-water emulsions •Made technical drawings of testing apparatus and created P&IDs for a forward osmosis oily water treatment system in AutoCAD Non-Oily Wastewater Management: •Researched commercial wastewater treatment unit operations, compiled market status reports on available and emerging technology, and made acquisition and procurement recommendations •Traveled to Montreal with a team of two other engineers on a system acquisition trip to learn system setup, operation, and maintenance; compiled deliverables for the remaining team members on base to communicate findings •Helped a team of engineers assess design elements of a compact wastewater treatment prototype to determine its capabilities and potential benefits in several areas including operation and maintenance requirements and effectiveness of concentrated wastewater treatment During the 2014-2015 academic year, I commuted to Bethesda once a week to continue testing and evaluation on two commercial systems as a continuation of my summer work.
