Real estate investment company. My wife Cara and I invested in, remodeled, and sold starter homes throughout Metro Detroit, starting during the Great Recession. These were move-in ready, modestly priced, high quality homes in good school districts. We did 40 projects in all; 38 were profitable. Communities we worked in include Allen Park, Dearborn, Livonia, and Plymouth. We started out painting walls and hammering in nails ourselves, and over time built up a good group of contractors. It was a great experience!
Executive recruiter - accounting and finance roles for CPA firms and corporations
Audit / Tax generalist role. Primarily served private companies with $50MM to approximately $200MM in annual revenues. Performed Audits, Reviews, and compilations, prepared and reviewed corporate and individual tax returns. School district audits in the summer time. Also worked on a financial re-statement project for a public company. Learned a tremendous amount about the profession.
