Founded Palmetto Biomedical (www.palmettobiomedical.com) as an outlet for consulting and for development of medical devices. Palmetto provides a wide array of medical device design and consulting services in areas such as product development, mechanical testing, intellectual property, business development and technology evaluation. In addition, the company develops medical technology for a variety of orthopaedic and neurosurgical applications. • Established full spectrum capability to design and prototype medical devices, retaining contract and student employees to resource research and design projects for Palmetto and our clients. • Developed and patented a range of devices including those for arthroscopy, foot & ankle surgery, hip replacement, pain management, and local delivery of therapeutic agents. Three issued patent for surgical lighting (US Patent D841,209), for delivery of therapeutic agents (US Patent 9,642,658) and for a covering/footplate for an external fixator of the lower extremity (U.S Patent 7,887,495), and several pending. • Consulting engagements with SpineWave (Shelton, CT), NuVasive (San Diego, CA), Medtronic Spine (Memphis, TN), Spinal Elements (Carlsbad, CA) and Cerapedics (Westminster, CO).. • Past projects include assessment of bone substitutes and orthobiologics, review of nucleus repair and regeneration technologies, design rationale and subsidence testing for a lateral spinal implant, development of novel instruments for trans-psoas neuromonitoring, medical device commercialization training for engineering staff and leadership mentoring discussions for first-time engineering managers. • Two spinout ventures based on Palmetto technology, Bioshape Solutions (now Bioclip LLC), established as a C-corporation (Delaware) in 2010 and View Medical, established in Tennessee in 2013.
