Part of the programme team conducting a feasibility study analysing the market opportunity for Sainsbury’s in China and the subsequent entry strategy. I am responsible for creating the buying strategy for Sainsbury’s outlining the risks, challenges and opportunities that exist. This involves creating a network of contacts within China, interpreting the data received and consolidating it into an actionable and practical strategy that we can implement if we enter the market.
I led a team of 11 colleagues to deliver three strategic pillars of the Sainsbury’s corporate trading strategy. 1. Annual category planning process - designed the annual category planning process for the trading teams. This involved creating a robust cross functional process for the buying, supply chain and own label teams to follow and leading the teams to create actionable and strategic category plans. 2. Annual joint business planning process - We developed a strategy of how best to negotiate with the suppliers, provided the teams with the necessary data and led the teams through to completion of the negotiations. 3. End to end project team - I created a team of five project managers that delivered significant cost savings through conducting end to end value chain analysis with our key suppliers.
