Hemisphere GNSS was formerly BEELINE, an early leader in agricultural auto steer technology. Work involved developing autonomous solutions for industrial equipment across agriculture and mining. Major work included a “one touch” tractor automation demonstration in 2010, integrating steering, speed control, hitch control, end turns and GPS fencing under a tight deadline. Also developed vision based localisation approaches for poor RTK GPS conditions and worked on early electric steering wheel concepts.
Built many things most famously in early 2000s: 1) lowzo.com - Australia's first market place, and world first "purchase engine", and 2) Linux-drivers for USB Missile Launcher Toy and Parallel Port PWM, 3) Parallel Port PIC Programmer
Worked across robotics research, prototype electronics, software and vision based mobile robot systems. Became a practical technical resource within the workshop, designing and implementing prototype circuits, robot software and experimental systems, including work associated with InsectBot and mobile autonomous robotics research. NICTA later became part of Data61 / CSIRO.
Developed indoor, non GPS location aware technology for applications including asset tracking and worker safety systems. Work involved embedded programming, mechatronics, electronics support and Linux network systems administration.
Invited to work with the “Connecting People Team” at CSIRO ICT Centre, designing and implementing a video conferencing air hockey system that combined mechatronics, interaction design, software and practical prototyping.
Invited to the Centre for Autonomous Systems at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Developed a rapid speech recognition system in approximately 1.5 weeks, alongside other technical work in robotics and autonomous systems research.
Worked on hardware solutions for vision based human machine interaction at Seeing Machines, a company co-founded by Alex Zelinsky. Work involved practical electronics, hardware integration, prototyping, and support for computer vision systems.
Continued working within the groundbreaking Robotics Systems Lab at ANU, alongside pioneers in computer vision and robotics including Richard Hartley and Alex Zelinsky (former Chief Defence Scientist of Australia, and former director of CSIRO). Was the "go to man" found in the workshop. Work involved implementing the hardware designs for all of the labs projects, along with the setup and maintenance of the workshop over 3 years. One major project was the development of the Smart Car research platform. Also co author of 364,578 lines of code for a robotics operating system active 2002-2005, which included VisLib - basically wrote ROS+OpenCV before they existed. At age 17, worked within the Robotics Systems Lab at ANU, gaining early exposure to robotics, computer vision, research engineering, and practical technical problem solving alongside pioneers including Richard Hartley and Alex Zelinsky (former Chief Defence Scientist of Australia, and former director of CSIRO). Designed and implemented a thruster testing unit and leak detected circuit for a submersible robot during high school holidays. Located and called the "Research School of Information Sciences and Engineering" or RSISE at the time.
