As an Army Congressional Liaison Officer in the U.S. Senate, I managed a portfolio of Senators and Senate Committees for the Chief of the Senate Liaison Division (SLD). The SLD Chief reported to the Chief, Legislative Liaison (CLL) who is directly responsible to the Secretary of the Army for legislative affairs. Escorted Members and committees both domestically and internationally to meet with Senior US and foreign Military and Government Officials, to include Foreign Heads of State. Our mission included formulating, coordinating, supervising, and executing the Army's Congressional policy and strategy to engage Congressional Members and Committees on an array of US Army topics to include—policies, manning, equipping, R&D portfolios, and budgetary matters.
