Big Data and Machine Learning - London This group is open to anyone who has an interest in Big Data and Machine Learning. Whether that be as a student, academic, researcher, advocate, employee or employer working in Big Data and Machine Learning – or even have just an inquisitive mind, you are all encouraged to join this group and will be welcomed to our Meetups. We will discuss, and have presentations, demonstrations and maybe the occasional hackathon, that will cover a wide, varying and hopefully interesting range of topics. As Principal Consultant at Actian Corp, I have worked closely with our customers world-wide to ensure their adoption of our Big Data solutions is a successful and smooth transition. For 25 yrs, my passion has been focused on RDBMs – Ingres, Vector, Vector in Hadoop, Matrix et al. Constantly keeping ahead of the game, as Actian moved into the world of Big Data, I ensured I was always one step ahead. From working closely with our Engineering Teams as the world’s fastest column-store database emerged onto the market to the amazement of prospects, customers and analysts, through to ensuring I had the requisite skills and knowledge as we expanded from symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) to massively parallel computing (MPP) solutions. With 30 years of experience across many verticals and IT disciplines, my wealth of knowledge and experience have placed me in a position where I am the go-to guy for understanding customer’s requirements, problem solving and delivering advice and education. I have excellent communication skills and am often asked to present Actian’s technologies and solutions at both public and customer-facing events. Also secured contracts for the University analysing and recommending technical solutions to the UK Education Research Network Association with respect to a national video conferencing initiative.
