Marnie Berk's current jobs
I lead our core capability, what we call our pro bono clearinghouse, where we boost this city’s ability to provide legal services and justice for left-out New Yorkers. We do this through direct services with our partners, and by strengthening the capabilities of other nonprofits and community organizations around the city. Our services strengthened 1,000+ nonprofit organizations each year through matching and capacity building in turn benefiting thousands of New Yorkers. I’m known for relationship building in every direction, and inspiring partnerships and community engagement through innovative models. I also contribute to strategic planning, and organizational and team building and leadership as number two in supporting two executive directors. I’ve helped the organization through 3+ major transitions: • Pivoting our core capability to community engagement • Expanding beyond our core capability to capacity building and nonprofit community leadership • Transitioning executive directors My team’s accomplishments include: • Empower 1,000+ nonprofits annually in capacity building, including, for example, workshops on hot button issues on board governance, diversity, equity & inclusion pipelines and communications. • Created an advisory council of young professionals who shape our strategy and act as our ambassadors. • Augmented our direct services by engaging 100+ of the city’s largest law firms and corporate legal departments. • Recently launched new ways of partnering with 12+ civil rights organizations on projects to address key areas of need. • Conceptualized a model for co-counseling on litigation that led to success in dozens of multi-year complex cases. • Created a process for the clearinghouse that was studied and replicated by organizations around the city.
