Melvin Key is the CEO of Protective Services headquartered in Arlington, VA. He manages the operations for security services for well over 150 employees in the Washington, D.C area, N.C, and Florida. His firm specializes in security guard services, serving apartments and office buildings, estate and residential, hotels, construction sites, stadiums, arenas, and conference centers. Melvin is highly respected in the event security field, with experience managing security for events with as little as a handful to well over 100,000 attendees. He has served as the Director of Contract Security for PGA Golf, ATP and WTA Tennis tournaments, numerous 5k runs, concerts, festivals, and sporting events. Melvin provides Executive Protection services for the executives of large corporations, Heads of States, celebrities, athletes and other High Net Worth individuals. He’s certified in Risk and Threat Assessments, and Search and Countermeasures for Bugs and Listening Devices (TSCM) to protect against corporate espionage. Melvin holds certifications in crowd management, National Incident Command, IED Explosive Blast Mitigation, IED Explosive Identification, Hazmat response, Active Shooter, and predictive profiling. Prior to Melvin’s security career, he served for 18 years in the D.C. Police Department. 15 of those years were spent in management. He is noted for being the youngest person in the history of the department to be promoted to the rank of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. Melvin was the commander of a 450-member police Civil Disturbance Unit, where he coordinated police operations at the Pentagon and in the District of Columbia during the 9/11 terror attacks. He also managed police operations at (4) U.S Presidential Inaugurations, the Million Man March and hundreds of other demonstrations, protests, parades, festivals, and even riots in the District of Columbia.
