In these two years I worked diligently towards Hydrogen Production coupled with solar/nuclear power, with a keen focus on CSP, where my highlight was being the Senior Process Engineer that led to the first directly irradiated Solar Chemical Reactor in the History of Germany, with a budget of €200K. I was assigned mainly to two projects: SOL2HY2 and SOPHIA. The former was a Pilot Plant Demo to develop, test and advance key technologies for sulphuric acid decompositon relevant to hydrogen production via Thermochemical Cycles using the Heliostat Field at the Solar Tower Jülich, the latter was experimental and reactor design for Intermediate Temperature Steam Electrolysis for H2 Production at DLR's Solar Simulator in Cologne. I successfully brought my scientific knowledge from my doctoral studies on this related field and applied it to engineering questions such as heat transfer problems, applied spectroscopy, reactor design or data acquisition. My input was a major contribution to the favourable outcome of the projects. +Material mass and energy balances for the one-pass Pilot Plant, included for individual equipment and for the plant balance. +Overall design, P&ID engineering and basic HAZOP analysis of the 200KW Thermal Pilot Plant. + Conceptualisation, design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, commissioning and operation of a 60 kW Multi-Tubular Joule-boosted Silicon Carbide Heat Exchanger for sulphuric acid boiling. +Multi-phase Computational Fluid dynamics relevant to sulphuric acid boiling, using bulk-fluid models, volume of fluid computations, using Ansys FLUENT and additional support calculations for heat transfer using Lattice Boltzmann source code (LBSim). +Flowsheeting of overall balances and fluid properties using Aspen Plus and Aspen Hysys for the steam electrolysys model, as well as the sulphuric acid boiling. +Design support for the 60kW Quarz-window Directly Irradiated Solar Receiver. +Simple Data acquisition programming with LabVIEW
+Obtaining vapour-liquid solubility data relevant to hydrogen production: acquiring experimental data using 3rd-gen and 4th-gen oscillating multi-phase physical reactors, along with mathematical weak electrolyte modelling to validate design parameters and improve existing thermodynamic models. + Equilibrium reactor design withstanding corrosive acid species, operating up to 120 °C and 30 atm. Design and operation. + Courses taken in Business, Entrepreneurship, Atheism, Robotics & Ethics, Information Technologies, Economy consulting Databases, like Datastream, ThomsonOne, Zephyr and Bankscope. + CAD modelling, 3D-visualization and advanced rendering techniques. + Simultaneous algebraic equations system development, calculation of fugacity and activity coefficients using the Pitzer model and the Nakamura equation of state using Mathematica. + Experimental controlling and monitoring using LabVIEW and Excel Macros with Visual Basic. + Teaching of 1st to 3rd year students in Chemical Engineering for Gas Chromatography, Heat Transfer, Distillation and Filter Press laboratory demonstrations. + Transport Processes / Partial Differential Equations teaching assistant for 3rd year Ch.Eng. Students, supervised by Prof. W. Zimmerman (Senior Lecturer, Sheffield University) and Prof. S.Wilkinson. (Head of Department, Chester University) + Computational Fluid Dynamics Teaching Assistant (using of Ansys FLUENT, Gambit and further versions) during 2010 until 2013 courses (Prof. Jordan MacInnes, First year tutor, University of Sheffield)
