As Course Leader, my role is to support my team of world history teachers in their classroom instruction and to develop a rigorous world history curriculum for the Yes Prep district. My responsibilities as Course Leader include: writing curriculum blueprints, unit plans, and unit assessments that are aligned to AP for district use; providing a skills-based rationale for the course and curriculum and securing buy-in from teachers on the team around my curricular vision; leading day-long Professional Development sessions at Content Team Days for a team of 9 teachers (6 per year); collaborating with other Course Leaders to increase vertical alignment between social studies courses; collaborating with teachers and course leaders in other departments, notably English, to determine potential areas of cross-discipline alignment.
As a 10th grade world history teacher, I designed curriculum for and taught a rigorous, student-centered world history course at Yes Prep West, and wrote or compiled all materials for the course (no textbooks). This course not only satisfied the objectives set in the TEKS, but also probed beyond them, addressing both the history and the historiography of the topics studied. In this role, I have consistently exceeded expectations in Yes Prep's teacher evaluation system and my students have earned the highest scores in the district in blind standardized assessments every year to date.
