In this role, I worked across commodities to leverage processing activities as an integral part of the value chain with a focus on now and near-term cash generation and long-term sustainable value generation. We delivered long-term sustainable value focused on unlocking the full potential of the endowment utilising intelligent plants, deploying step-change technologies where people willingly invest discretionary energy.
In my time at Lonmin, I held responsibility for the Process Division of Lonmin consisting of concentrators, smelting and refining as well as corporate responsibility for Sustainability, Environment and Health and for shorter periods for Group Communication and Stakeholder Relations, Marketing and IT functions.
I had responsibility for the concentrators that consisted of 8 concentrators with a 14.4mtpa capacity. During this period, the concentrator team took this division from the lowest historical performance to best historical performance over a three-year period.
With the Klipspruit team, we started the Klipspruit Mine with minimum capital. This supported capital approval for the current form of the Klipspruit mine and Phola Plant.
My role included responsibility for the chrome beneficiation plants and Tweefontein Mine operations.
Modikwa Platinum Mine was a greenfield project with a highly automated 200,000tpm concentrator plant. I had specific responsibility for the final stages of design review, commissioning of the plant, and then day-to-day operational management of the plant.
My responsibilities included operational management of the gold plant, a 420,000tpm plant consisting of run-of-mine milling with thickening, leach, carbon-in-pulp and electrowinning. We turned around the plant from a period of poor to no asset management to full performance.
My role included initiating the technology development department for the metallurgical division and setting the strategy for technology development. Projects included hands-free gold production, gravity recovery of gold and resin technology.
In this role, I worked on metallurgical projects and plant optimisation.
