-Worked in the capacity of Operational Head, responsible for Processing, Maintenance, & Utilities. -I had been assigned the responsibility of expansion, diversification and modernization of the processing unit at Adamjee. The scope includes (successful) startup of dyeing department & machines, reactive printing, digital printing, implementation of professional systems for enhanced utilization of resources, improving traceability, & maximizing profit & output. Responsible for processing P&L (profit & loss). -Worked on EU Flower & Detox compliance. -Executed projects related to procurement of centralized utility measurement system, water-jet screen stripping machine, caustic recovery unit, effluent treatment plant, coal boiler, & various policies for fabric & material movement within the organization. -Focused on improving productivity by identifying bottlenecks & optimizing process flow. -Lead the civil construction/expansion projects including those for marketing & processing offices.
-Worked in capacity of Operational Head, responsible for Processing & Maintenance. -Lead operations of a plant of over 1500 employees & multiple processing techniques. -Macro manage day to day operations, as well as execution of long term plans. -PRODUCTION: Increased total plant monthly production from 5.2 mi mtrs to 6.2mi mtrs with similar product mix and resources, average monthly values, with highest of 6.6mi mtrs. Export production increased from 3.6mi mtrs to 4.2 mi mtrs avg, and highest of 4.6mi mtrs. Local lawn & lattha production 2.0mi mtrs. -COST: Reduced cost by over 7 rs/mtr. This involved changing and re-engineering process routes as well as increasing efficiencies and up-times. Further, identified factors such as product mix that could improve overall profitability and efficiency. Also changed some dyestuff and printing paste preparation techniques. -Determined process bottlenecks, and worked on means to overcome them. -Converted mercerized pigment print route to causticized route, resulting in annual savings of over Rs 26mi. -Responsible for processing P&L (profit & loss).
-Headed an expansion project involving addition of new singeing, continuous bleaching, 90,000 sq.ft civil construction, a new 1MW Gas Engine with waste heat recovery, and a new variable speed compressor. -Initiated preventive maintenance system, and changed the previously existing philosophy of ‘why change when it is working’. -Introduced and implement basic statistical tools in quality inspection and packing department. This helped in identifying, and having increased focus, on the major contributing causes to rejections, wastages and reprocess. -Prepared an indigenous software for costing & production planning with IT team.
-Key position; managed technical, commercial sourcing aspects of processed fabric. -Managed and planned timely execution of processing accounts as per desired quality specifications in accordance with shipment priorities. -Communicated with customers on product developments, quality specifications, technical requirements, achievable results & possible solutions. -Visited customer warehouses and industrial laundries in Denmark, and Italy to gain first hand experience of end user requirements. -Carried out product development and R&D work including lab dips, bulk samples, special finishes and process routes. One of the current projects includes realizing optimum product to sustain over 100 industrial launderings for institutional use. -Rectified product in case of non-conformity; identify reasons, take decisions where other constraints prohibit rectification or in case of failure in rectification. -Was part of the team that worked on certification for EU ‘Flower’ application. -Developed and processed Reactive Printed Flame Retardant fabric during my tenure at Sapphire Textile Mills. This was the first such production from Pakistan. The fabric printing and finishing were sourced from different processing units, which makes this a unique achievement in all aspects.
-Responsible for project technical aspects including layout design, development & equipment commissioning for the new processing plant project of USD35 million. -Carried out technical meetings & correspondence with machine suppliers to evaluate, compare & optimize scope of supply for all processing & laboratory equipment. -Finalized utility equipment capacity sizing & requirements, designed the electrical distribution & heat recovery system for the plant, & evaluated and rectified the pneumatic, steam and water distribution network. -Prepared proposals for effective floor layout for optimized process flow. -Organized, structured, planned and set-up the complete printing production department. Managed the department with continuous optimization approach. -Developed process routes for different printing styles & design categories. -Managed inventory of dyes, chemicals, screens & consumables.
-Responsible for Technical developments & issues, Quality, Efficiency, Production & Coordination of 2 million meters monthly output. -Restructured & reorganized Printing Department. -Reduced operational costs by controlling wastages, reducing down time and optimizing auxiliary chemicals’ consumption. -Significantly reduced screen damage & chemical wastage by singling out key reasons. -Independently headed the printing Sampling Department including new design development and approvals.
