Glovo's Data team has transitioned through different setups as the company has scaled up: from a fully centralized model to a fully decentralized one. As the data team has grown and matured (currently formed by 200+ people), a hybrid model has been identified as the most versatile topology, in which different areas of the business keep their autonomy while benefitting from the resources (data platforms, services, teams, processes) and direction provided by the Central Data group. My role is to build the Central Data function that harmonizes how we deal with Data at Glovo (both on technical aspects -technology, methodologies, architectures...- and people aspects -career development and progression, teams structure...-). I am setting the vision for Data, including all data crafts (data engineering, data analytics and data science). As part of the journey, we are successfully adopting Data Mesh, as one of the very few companies pioneering this new data paradigm.
