Responsible of the engineering department leading the mechanical design and redesign of a wide range of products used within global HVM (hostile vehicle mitigation) and perimeter security solutions like security barriers, impact tested road blockers and security bollards, sliding automatic gates & turnstiles. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • The mechanical design of new products and redesign of existing products, using the most advanced techniques of parametric 3D modeling with Autodesk Inventor. • To carry out detailed mechanical design work including, hand calculations, simulation (eg stress analysis / FMEA) and design verification testing • Responsible for the regulatory compliance (CE Marking / Directives as appropriate) of new and current products • Responsible for the specification compliance of new and current products • Responsible for mechanical part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost • Ensures the mechanical design outputs fit in with all other aspects of the design • Responsible for preparing for and presenting at mechanical designs at design reviews and to generate minutes if required • Responsible for control of agreed design budgets • To generate and maintenance a parametric technical library • To liaise with other departments to ensure that required information is available when needed and that customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner • Responsible for generation of assembly drawings and bills of materials • Responsible for mechanical product / component standardization • To work closely with operations, manufacturing and production engineers to ensure products are designed for efficient manufacture (for both in-house and outsourcing) and onward transportation • Responsible for checking and validating CAD works undertaken by CAD Technicians • Take responsibility for coaching and supporting CAD Technicians in design techniques and departmental processes
