My role had initially been focused on delivering a working organizational process for managing all Data Center Operation ( DCO ) projects. I was responsible for creating operating frameworks and building an environment within which all the shared services projects could be delivered. After the initial set up period my focus moved to the active management of my (and my teams) portfolio of work. I managed a Portfolio Management function for Data Centre Operations - Shared Infrastructure. I was responsible for all programs related to DCO Shared Infrastructure, tools and management systems development in addition to running a verity of other strategic DCO programmes. I also managed the annual budget and CAPEX planning and prioritisation work for DCO. Key projects included • The delivery of new network security infrastructure (sourcefire, NID running VMWare ESXi Hypervisor and a VM running the actual sourcefire OS/software + NTAP deployment) • Project to implement Network Service Monitoring across the Cell environment • SM7 to SM9 migration programme • Standard infrastructure deployments (eg VM’s, Snap Mirror, Gigamon Deployment, HP SIM/VCEM, DCIM, • Microsoft global unified licence framework contractual agreements • ISO certification of new Data centres • Disaster recovery plans for all strategic data centres and The DCO Business Continuity plans • Win 2003 end of life (over 39 thousand servers) • The development of an IPv6 solution.
As Service Owner I was responsible defining the service experience for the Hosted strategic product. I was also responsible for developing new ways to improve the customer service experience and specifying new product capability for both the hosted and deployed products. My main achievements in this role have been: • Producing a Service vision. Defining a 5 strategic year vision for product service and support. • Development of a process to drive incremental improvements in product development. This included the development of targets, a root cause process and the development of an operating rhythm. However the most critical (and challenging) element was obtaining corporate buy-in and agreement to targets and to the adoption of a process • Development and implementation of improved support capability for desktop-products. • Project-management. I manage projects through the complete project lifecycle. For example, the project to create the capability for the Help Desk to remotely share a customers screen • Product/Specification. Specification and development of a suite of tools to help the support of all hosted products • The/Service/Budget. Establishing the service requirements for the one year specific and five year strategic budget and supporting the budget process by defining in business terms the cost and implication of the specific service aims.
I project managed the launch of new products into the business: • Launch of a Hosted (Citrix) version of Reuters main deployed desktop product. At the time this was Citrix’s largest single implementation and hosted over 20,000 users with a Multi Terabyte storage array. • Launch of a new high tier real time data feed product for large clients • The launch of a suite of Equity trading products (both FIX® and propriety solutions) • I managed a business close downs and migration of customers to alternative products.
