In 1984 Petrea unexpectedly recovered from acute myeloid leukemia. Since then she has devoted her time to working with communities, groups & individuals living with illness, grief, loss, change, natural disasters & trauma or who are confronted by the existential questions due to some unexpected challenge in their life. In 1989 Petrea established the Quest for Life Foundation, a charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (Type 1) status. The Foundation's focus has expanded over the years to encompass retreats & services that promote healing & build resilience in people & communities in rural, remote & regional Australia as well as at its beautiful residential retreat Centre in Bundanoon, in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Petrea has grown with the Foundation through positions including volunteer, Program Director, Facilitator & CEO, mostly all at the same time! Since 2000 Petrea has been a regular monthly guest on Tony Delroy's Nightlife & Richard Glover's Midweek Conference on ABC national & local radio & has been featured in dozens of television & print media interviews. She is called on by the media when communities experience trauma or when international disasters or other tragedies occur or to address the daily challenges of life. Petrea has been a regular meditator for over 40 years and has studied many traditions & texts. She is the author of eight best selling books for adults & children (listed below) & more than a dozen meditation CDs available through links below or iTunes. In addition to her training as a naturopath, yoga & meditation teacher, Petrea draws upon her personal experiences (including the depression & ultimate suicide of a brother, years in hospital as a teenager undergoing many surgeries to enable her to walk, surviving rape and drug abuse, facing her mortality when ill with leukaemia) along with the experience of tens of thousands of people she has worked with.
