I primarily work on risk assessments, data analysis and presentation, and the improvement the Costa Rican Animal Health information system. My main interest is in the prevention, control and surveillance of animal diseases, with particular emphasis on relevant zoonotic diseases in Costa Rica, such as rabies, brucellosis and ‘bovine’ tuberculosis. I enjoy interpreting data and to make it available to a broader public. Current projects involve a risk assessment for African swine fever (ASF), and the modernization of the Costa Rican animal health information system (SIVE).

Lecturing veterinary students from first to last year in the areas of veterinary public health, epidemiology and statistics. Epidemiological research in different (zoonotic and non-zoonotic) animal diseases: rabies, equine encephalomyelitis, lumpy skin disease. Support to other projects on contingency plans (Ministry of Health), animal health economics and on raccoons in an urban environment.
