Our online programs offer musicianship to children aged six months to five years. Each program, containing 8-classes, has been carefully handcrafted, using only the most successful activities developed through over 20 years of in-person tuition at Cottage School of Music, Junior. Founded in 1998, the Cottage School of Music Junior Program has been designed, written, and developed by Danielle Joynt, one of Australia's leading early childhood music teachers. It is based on traditional folk-song, dance, and composed music, drawing on elements from a wide range of teaching practices. Through an engaging class structure, we use different songs, dances, books, rhymes, and pieces each week, allowing each child to learn through an ever-changing and beautiful selection of music and literature from all over the world, encompassing all periods of music history. PHILOSOPHY Music is Beautiful: - Every child has a connection to music that is innate and completely their own. - Through song, dance, and play, we aspire to help children step into this beautiful world, a world they can embrace and find meaning in for the rest of their lives. Why we teach music: - So you will be ... human - So you will recognize the beauty - So you will be sensitive - So you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world - So you will have something to cling to - So you will have more love, compassion, gentleness, good - So you will have more life Our engaging class structures include: - circle dances - ostinato (a rhythmic and/or melodic pattern repeated over and over again) - storybook reading to music - introducing dynamics through playing percussion to composing music score reading - understanding tempi through movement to music - singing and ball rolling - hand, tickle, and bouncing rhymes - rhythmic, pitch, and stave work - folk dance - lullaby - craft - gentle singing games - conscious listening
