I began DT Engineering NW Ltd as a one-man start-up and the thrill of watching it grow from that tiny acorn into the oak tree it is today is one which accounts for the enthusiasm I bring into my work as the company’s Managing Director on a daily basis. I play a part in every element of the business, from liaising with clients to marketing the firm and pricing up jobs. I am a firm believer in hands-on management, which I believe is essential in establishing a rapport and respect between myself and my staff. If I was an office-based manager who didn’t know what a chain hoist was, or how to work a hoist, I wouldn’t be much use when it comes to recruiting new staff for the business. Similarly, I wouldn’t be able to sell our company to potential new clients if I couldn’t talk with authority about crane maintenance or crane manufacturing. Although I am a Managing Director, I am first and foremost an engineer, and when you are dealing with DT Engineering you can be sure that each and every member of staff here will have similar expertise. You might need your electric chain hoist looking at if your hoist isn’t working properly – our crane maintenance services are second to none – or you might be a new start-up, as I was in 1996, and need some advice about crane manufacturing in general. The relatively small number of people who work for DT Engineering is a mark of how protective of the company I am as its founder and Managing Director. I am determined that anybody who works for our business be as capable as the staff they would be joining, which if nothing else shows the expertise any customers are buying into when they start working with us. Every one of our engineers shares my passion for the business, a passion they bring into every element of their work, whether that’s crane maintenance, crane manufacturing or simply doing some simple work on an electric chain hoist.
