Canterbury Agricultural & Pastoral Association (CAPA) A 160-year-old not-for-profit, member-based Association. CAPA's mission is to further the progress of agriculture in Canterbury and NZ, through the NZ Agricultural Show, the largest annual event in Canterbury. As GM, I reported to the Board Chair and Director of Audit and Finance, overseeing a team comprising a Board Secretary, Show Secretary, Accounts Administrator, Operations Manager, Event Manager, and Logistics Team. My role focused on effective leadership, fostering collaboration, financial management, operational excellence, fundraising, and engaging with stakeholders such as the Board of Directors, Committees, Members, and Past-Presidents. External stakeholders included Christchurch City Council, ChristchurchNZ, Royal Agricultural Society, Ngā Puna Wai, and Corrections. Key Achievements: •Led and managed the CAPA team to successfully deliver annual events; the Aotearoa Wine Competition and the NZ Agricultural Show, attracting 120,000+ visitors. (2021,2022 & 2023). The management of the Show was previously externally sourced. Post-COVID, I bought the management in-house with little existing IP, developing manuals and a budgeting model to future-proof delivery of these iconic events. •Ensured on-time and budget-compliant project delivery, including reporting to the board and committees. •NFP Marketing & PR Strategy developed in line with CAPA’s strategic plan; fundraising plan established included membership fee growth, networking/relationship strategy, grant/sponsorship applications/proposals, and presentations resulting in sustainable income growth. •Maintained day-to-day financial management, adhering to budgets, policies, and regulatory requirements. Prepared annual accounts for auditors and the Charities Commission. •Oversaw daily operations, managed the Canterbury Agricultural Park's contract, ensured health and safety compliance, and nurtured relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
