Microbiology/Gene Therapy/Immunotherapy/GMP Manufacturing/Tech Transfer/CMC
• Genetic characterization of under-characterized (Clostridium termitidis) and newly identified bacteria (Clostridium sp. strain URNW) followed by bioinformatics genome data mining. • Metabolic profiling to characterize end-product synthesis pathways of C. termitidis and Clostridium sp. strain URNW in batch and bioreactor experiments using different substrates • Differential shotgun proteome analysis of C. termitidis using 2D LC/MS/MS (iTRAQ and MRM methods) to evaluate changes in levels of gene and gene product expression in response to changing metabolic activity during fermentation under different physiological conditions • Development of “pluripotent designer consortia” with co-cultures of C. termitidis and Clostridium sp. strain URNW in a bioreactor for the biorefineries to generate more products (ethanol, hydrogen, and co-products) from lower-cost feedstocks (lignocellulosics), thus increasing their economic-viability in the long-term • Performed fermentation studies using industrial strain of S. cerevisiae for Bioethanol production from Canadian winter wheat varieties (HUSKY Energy project).
• Molecular genetics of conifers, involving identification and characterization of respiration-specific, embryo and germination-specific LYR gene in economically important species like Douglas-fir for the production of biodiverse forest for future generations. • Bioinformatics analysis to study about this newly identified inner mitochondrial membrane protein using different tools like Base by base, Uniprot, Pfam, Interpro and finally used neighbor joining tree program for performing a phylogenetic analysis to predict the evolutionary relationship of this newly identified LYR gene in different organisms.
Taught courses related to Industrial Microbiology, Biotechnology & Immunology to Master’s of Pharmacy, Bachelor’s of Pharmacy, B.Sc and M.Sc Biotechnology students.
Polymer analysis and chemical analysis to test the quality of rubber products. GC and HPLC analysis of source materials and testing it’s physiochemical properties to make various commercial rubber products and accessories.
• Gained expertise as a Food Microbiologist/technologist performing quality control and adulteration assays using DNA-based PCR technology, nutritional analysis, food allergen/natural toxin analysis using ELISA/LC/MS, and storage/packaging principles. • Microbiological analysis of food/meat products- bacterial, fungal, direct microscopic count of organisms in milk, standard plate counts (aerobic and anerobic bacteria), Canner’s test, Breed count technique. • Reductase test for milk (MBRT, Resazurin), testing microbial spoilage of refrigerated food, and microbial analysis of fermented milk products (yogurt, curd). • Experience in Food processing (Basic principles, Heat application processing, Ambient temperature processing). • Being also a medical microbiologist, performed an epidemiological survey by collecting samples from about 20 hospitals in Chennai and determined the frequency rates of occurrence of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci. • Determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the isolated organisms. • Gained expertise in Soil, Food, Environmental, Medical Microbiology, Mycology, and Parasitology.
