In providing oversight and stewardship of financial resources for the Nigerian sovereign wealth fund in achieving its 3 core mandates of building a savings base, enhancing infrastructure development and providing stabilization support; I participated in setting-up the Financial Control function of the NSIA while ensuring compliance with the accountability and transparency requirements of the Santiago Principles. This entailed: • Implementing the financial accounting and IFRS reporting framework; designing financial tools, systems and processes; formulating accounting policies and manuals; setting-up the budgeting and budgetary control mechanism. • I was the finance process-owner in the implementation of a business reporting software. My role spanned across selection of the ERP system; design of a new IFRS compliant Chart of Accounts and reporting templates; assignment of roles and authorization to staffs, testing of the validity of the system reports via ESQL-Editor and other diagnostic checks to ensure completeness. Other routine finance and accounting functions which I perform include: • Supporting annual audits and quarterly reviews (I am currently the contact person for quarterly reviews) carried out by the group’s external auditors. • Preparing consolidated financial management reports; leading monthly, quarterly & annual reporting of the NSIA’s core funds and other fiduciary funds managed on behalf of the 3 tiers of Governments in Nigeria. • Organizing annual budget preparation in line with budget programs and activity pipelines; preparing monthly actual vs budget expenditure report (OPEX & CAPEX). • Preparing key statements such as NAV for Private equity & hedge fund holdings, investment schemes as well as basic pricing and valuation of securities held in these vehicles. • Providing fund accounting oversight on KG Brussels, LP, a Delaware LP (a subsidiary of NSIA) comprising of 16 mature Private Equity interests with diversified vintage years.
