GIC is the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Singapore with more than US$100 Billion worth of assets under management. Wai Keong's most recent role in GIC was Managing Director & Head of Enterprise Strategy, primarily responsible for managing GIC’s enterprise strategy and business planning process, integrating both investment and organisation strategies to ensure that business outcomes are aligned with strategic goals. He was also Chairman of ASEAN Business Group in GIC, a committee set up to develop stronger business networks in ASEAN markets and achieve greater synergies across GIC's investments in all the asset classes of Public/Private Equities, Fixed Income, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Special Situations. Before his Enterprise Strategy role, Wai Keong was Managing Director and Co-Region Head for Asia (Real Estate), responsible for managing GIC’s real estate investments in Asia and led numerous significant investments in India, Korea and South East Asia markets. He also concurrently held the role of Managing Director of Investment Services (Private Markets), overseeing investment processes and operational support to GIC’s investments in the private markets of real estate, private equity and infrastructure across all markets globally.
Ascendas (now merged with Capitaland Group) was a leading real estate business solutions provider in Asia. Wai Keong held the role of Chief Executive Officer (SE Asia) and Executive Director of Ascendas ASEAN Business Space Fund, a private equity real estate development fund with projects in Vietnam, Malaysia and Philippines. He was also concurrently Executive Vice President (Development and Investment), responsible for managing Ascendas’ regional investment portfolio and development of key projects across Asia, including China, India, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia.
After leaving the Singapore government service, Wai Keong first joined CapitaLand Group - one of Asia’s leading integrated real estate developer and fund manager based in Singapore. Mr Loh held the position of Country Head (India) with CapitaMalls Asia and managed the CapitaRetail India Development Fund, a private equity fund set up to acquire and develop a portfolio of retail malls in India.
After leaving the Singapore Armed Forces, Wai Keong served as Deputy Permanent Secretary (Trade) in the Singapore Ministry of Trade & Industry, primarily responsible for formulating Singapore’s trade policies and managing economic relations with key partners. He was closely involved in managing major bilateral projects such as the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, as well as leading the Singapore delegation in a number of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with ASEAN, USA, China, Korea, Japan, India, Australia, EU and GCC countries.
Starting his public service career in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) as a military officer, Wai Keong attained the rank of Brigadier General and last held the role of Commander, 3rd Singapore Division of the Army. He also held other critical posts as Director of Joint Operations in the SAF Joint Staff, Assistant Chief of General Staff (Operations) in the Army, Commander of 2nd Singapore Infantry Brigade, and Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment. Appointed as the Executive Committee (EXCO) Chairman of the National Day Celebration Committee in the year of 2005, Wai Keong led a large inter-ministry and multiple-agencies working group in the planning, organisation and execution of Singapore's National Day Parade on 9th August 2005, at our 40th anniversary of independence.
