Esco 2.0 — global expansion, product portfolio expansion, organically and via M&A. While formally appointed in 2011 to the CEO role, continued to understudy our Founders, to further internalize the Esco values and Winning our Ways (WOW).
The office boy at 13, IT manager at 14, and then export manager at 17, I climbed the ladder, overcame the doubts of my (much older) colleagues/business partners — and transformed Esco into a global life sciences equipment manufacturer. At age 18, traveled alone to Ann Arbor Michigan, and become the youngest accredited NSF biosafety cabinet certifier. Thereafter led the development of what is now Esco’s world leading biosafety cabinet line, later establishing US-based R&D operations and expanding into CO2 incubators and other life sciences equipment products. After SARS in 2003, I was invited by the Chinese authorities at the age of 19 to advise the Chinese FDA on the Chinese standards. During the 2000’s, I led the globalization of Esco, establishing a global distribution network in over 100 countries, and founding the Esco Chinese and US subsidiaries (and many others) which are now the top 2 markets of Esco. Starting from the ground up, I have worked on the plant’s shop floor, being the first employee in the door at 6AM cleaning the work space, when I introduced Toyota Production System practices from Japan to Esco Bintan. Over the years, established and for certain periods of time personally ran many of the functions in the company from IT, R&D, quality, global sales, marketing communications, product management, to technical support.
Founded and managed Esco’s US subsidiary while at Wharton. Starting from a tiny office at the University Science Center, we now have 2 facilities in the Philly area including manufacturing.
