Leading direction, strategy, technical vision, planning, evangelism, resource acquisition(funding and hiring) and tactical execution of Twitter's next-gen Streaming compute solution. Lead and concluded the "build vs buy" decision for next-gen stream processing solution between KSQL, Apache Flink and GCP's Dataflow which included detailed cost estimation/projection for finding "financial viability" and contributing to "contract negotiations" between Twitter and GCP. The proposed solution includes retiring in-house "Lambda architecture" and re-building the stream processing stack on Apache Beam/Dataflow based "Kappa architecture" while onboarding streaming platform from on-prem to GCP-based services. The solution covers building abstractions for varied sets of customer profiles - Software Engineers, Data Scientists and Product managers. Lead the complete charter starting with a 2 engineer team and grew it to 20+ engineers via additional hiring and merging with a separate team. Powering Instagram's mission-critical storage use-cases via running/building/maintaining Cassandra (distributed Key/Value store). Some of the critical and green-field projects included building a data partitioning solution(Akkio) to support the "widest" Cassandra ring in the world (us-west to east-eu).
Built/Ran a SQL based managed Realtime Stream Processing service (Puma) at Facebook scale. This includes automated provisioning, self-service, automated healing(auto scale and auto balance) and many other main stream features.
