Since 2013, I have been involved in the creation, design, build, development, and evaluation of over 200 student-led and teacher-led courses. I developed a LMS build process which allows for the modification of existing courses in order to be sold to private districts or schools. This process has been implemented in over 500 courses in the past 15 months. In November 2014, I was the only undergraduate student who presented at the Instructional Design Leadership Conference. Currently, I assist in managing the 56 languages courses offered at BYU Independent study.
For a semester I worked with Dr. Russell Osguthorpe, then director of the Center of Teaching and Learning at BYU. I proofread his manuscript of "Education of the Heart", and then designed an iBook template that will be distributed in the future. I learned how to use iBooks Author in the creation of this project.
I was brought into Williamsburg Academy to learn the LMS CANVAS in order to create online classes and quizzes., import e-books, structure rubrics and type in exams. The subsequent semester I was asked to teach an online college prep and leadership class twice a week to juniors and seniors. Apart from directing the conversations each meeting, I would mentor each student individually throughout the week focused on their own needs.
For a year I was a language instructor at the Missionary Training Center on the campus of BYU. I personally trained 40 missionaries over a period of 9 weeks in the Spanish language, along with multiple training encounters with over 100 other missionaries. I focused on helping them understand Spanish language, written, spoken, listening, and reading. Along with the language, I taught them various administrative duties and teaching principles such as asking questions, listening, and teaching to individual needs.
For a period of two years I left my studies at the university and was a full time missionary in the Republic of Paraguay. Here I gained a knowledge of hispanic culture and language as well as learned many important teaching and learning principles. During my two years I became a leader over several groups of differing sizes directing and training 6, 24, and then all 200 missionaries within Paraguay. Each week I would prepare a training based on the needs of the missionaries.
