Damon Vander Lind's past jobs
I started the Heaviside division of Kitty Hawk, building out the team with strong foci on Engineering, Manufacturing, Flight Test, and Product. We developed Heaviside to be the fastest, longest range, quietest E-VTOL aircraft in the world, circa 2019. The awesome efforts of the Heaviside team earned us a finalist spot for the Collier Trophy.
I led the Makani team through the transition into Google [X], and in the development, manufacturing, and testing of the M600 airborne wind turbine.
I led the transition from soft kites to high efficiency tethered aircraft of relatively conventional layout and construction. We learned a huge amount in this time period, testing a series of 7 prototypes to derisk our development path. The final prototype, Wing 7, was a 30 kW fully functional system that was the genesis of our 600 kW pilot scale vehicles, later developed within Google [X].
I caught fish and occasionally fixed boat problems to pay for college.
