Factory Automation Global Domain Lead. Responsibilities included strategic roadmap development for the corporation, industry and supplier coordination on factory automation requirements, solution development and integration and testing in a mock-up factory environment supporting the strategic roadmap, projects in existing factories, and factory employee training as well as various public relations, government relations, and recruiting efforts.
• Lead selection and implementation of key Manufacturing Systems solutions in AMD’s Back End manufacturing sites. These solutions improve factory yield, cycle time, and equipment utilization leveraging proven solutions from AMD’s Front End manufacturing sites. • Promote the adoption of LEAN thinking into a global Manufacturing Services group to improve factory designs and business processes used to select, develop, and implement Manufacturing Systems solutions for AMD worldwide. • Provide the delivery of Manufacturing Systems Technology solutions to AMD’s External Customers. This activity started as an internal support responsibility in 2003 when Spansion was a majority owned subsidiary and has become an external service contract with a completely independent company. It now includes providing solutions and services to Chartered Semiconductor and all Catalyst APC solutions customers.
• Led corporate Manufacturing Systems Project Managers and Technical Staff supporting all AMD existing and future Fabs. • Led manufacturing systems planning efforts for two 300mm Joint Ventures projects. The scale of these programs ranged from $35 million to $200 million and required up to 200 internal and external resources. • Delivered strategic support to all existing Fabs in the form of supplier management, project management, technical design reviews, and provided consultation on key budget and personnel management decisions. • Supported customers in AMD and JV partners for the following factories…Fab 25, Fab 30, SDC, FASL JV123, Fab 3X planning (became Fab 36), JV4 planning (became SP1), UMC.
• Played a key role in building an organization at an international green field site that implemented a $119 million Automation program for a high volume Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility that received Semiconductor International Fab of the Year award for 2001. • Mentored team leaders in the following activities: project execution, budget setting and management, staffing, training, and communication with upper management. This position required a two year expatriate assignment.
• Led the implementation of a $35 million material handling program in the startup of a high volume Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility which won the Fab of the Year award for 1996 from Semiconductor International. • Implemented AMD’s first factory-wide material handling system implementation.
• Implemented an Automated Material Handling Systems integration laboratory as an AMD assignee that proved for the semiconductor industry that a diverse set of 8 competing suppliers could work together to implement a single integrated factory solution to improve equipment utilization and cycle time. • Facilitated consensus decision making with an extremely diverse customer set from SEMATECH's 11 member companies, equipment suppliers, academic organizations, national labs, and the US government.
• Led the selection or development of equipment solutions to improve processes and manufacturing performance in a semiconductor manufacturing environment. • Implemented AMD’s first fully automated manufacturing bay as a proof of concept for future factory design decisions. • Defined requirements and led the design and creation of a new tool called a wafer sorter for the semiconductor industry to improve product yield by reducing scratches on wafers. • Selected and installed various material tracking solutions to provide automated physical inventory tracking that helped reduce WIP in the factory and improve cycle time.
