At the height of the HIV-AIDS crisis, the world’s healthcare systems suddenly faced an urgent need for stronger precautions and better protective equipment. Seeing this need as I neared the end of my university studies, I launched Medicom, a Canadian-based importer of medical supplies and infection-control products. For the next ten years, I built the company from the ground up. One of my proudest achievements is that many of the customer relationships I developed in those early years are still going strong today. We have always worked very closely with our customers to create custom solutions to their needs. In 1992, I partnered with Morris Goodman (a prolific entrepreneur, mentor and friend) of Pharmascience, a key step in the company’s evolution and growth. We have continued to develop strategic partnerships, and today we are proudly partnered with many organizations and governments around the world. We built our first factory in 1997, taking Medicom from importer to manufacturer, and spent the next ten years expanding globally, opening facilities in Europe and Asia to meet the growing demand for safety and infection control in healthcare. By the 20-year mark in 2008, the Medicom team encompassed more than 400 people. And still we continued to grow, expanding to serve the dental, medical, veterinary, health and wellness markets. Medicom has provided reliable personal protective equipment and infection-control solutions throughout numerous health crises, including epidemics and pandemics such as the Avian Flu, SARS, H1N1, Ebola and COVID-19. Today I am the Executive Chair of a ten-factory, with managing directors overseeing operations in each of our main markets (Asia, Europe, and North America).
