Ross Gompertz PE PMP's past jobs
I led a multi-national team to deliver telecommunication facilities for the AT&T Mobility project. Oversaw contractors to build new sites starting from either raw land or existing buildings through to network integration and on-air. Expanded cell coverage and internet access across all of Northern California.
I led an interdisciplinary team of engineers to deliver this natural gas combined cycle power plant, valued at $1.58 billion, which now generates 1,100-MW of power for the New York energy market. I developed metrics and tracking systems used to monitor the subcontractors’ quality and productivity. I worked closely with engineering in New Delhi and Virginia to identify opportunities for modularization or prefabrication to decrease the craft labor hours in the field. In addition, I was the Lock-out / Tag-out (LOTO) tagging authority as part of our world class safety program. I have contributed to the innovations team by piloting new automated work packaging, inspections, and drone-based tracking software. During this time I also acted as an internal consultant to our Hummel Station project in Shamokin Dam, PA. While there, I investigated problems with the steam and combustion turbine generators and directed the team to correct the problems.
Led a team of mechanical field engineers to provide technical direction, oversee work planning/packaging, and ensure interdisciplinary coordination in the construction of a 2x2x1, 778MW natural gas combined cycle power plant. I worked closely with the design team in New Delhi to prioritize the mechanical engineering deliverables and resolve issues. Enforced the quality program as it relates to our mechanical installations and our subcontractors. Revised our corporate equipment maintenance procedures to standardize and streamline them.
Managed the construction of upgrades and installations of new telecommunications facilities in the Southern California market. Providing technical and commercial direction during all phases of construction from estimating and bidding to true-up negotiations and project closeout. Working with different contractors to complete numerous projects simultaneously.
Provided technical direction for the construction of a Siemens KN steam turbine, generator, and associated auxiliary equipment. Assist fellow mechanical field engineers with remaining equipment.
Provided technical direction during the installation of two Siemens 501F combustion turbines with TEWAC generators. I was also the field engineer for the GE D11 steam turbine during all phases from foundation work into commissioning. Coordinated work with the owner as well as both Siemens and GE TFAs. Ended the project as both field engineer and superintendent for the steam turbine millwrights. Before this, I aided in the installation of the underground circulating water pipe, boiler feed pumps, and the condenser (as well as many other pieces of rotating mechanical equipment). I was also the FE during site set-up of the trailers and sewer systems.
Developed tracking program for installed quantity metrics on the boiler. Work packaged, and inspected work on the boiler. Determined necessary moves to ensure squareness of the boiler with the union layout crew.
Completed system and drawing take-offs. Walked down work packages for closure. Led the site manager’s safety walk downs. Organized material in the lay down yards to increase efficiency and issued material withdrawal requests.
