For the past five years preformed the duties of chief architect for Space Commands Digital Information Network (SDIN). Working diligently to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the Air Force Space Command’s main transport network, my efforts were instrumental in the delivery of mission critical space, missile and Intel data to the warfighter. Troubleshooting and solving complex IP addressing schemes, problems with OSPF, BGP, MPLS, serial communications circuits, and cryptographic equipment issues, while providing an operational network availability and reliability rating of 99.999%.

Led operational troubleshooting, fault isolation, perform maintenance actions necessary to repair and restore systems, performance testing, and associated logistics actions in support of the Air Force Satellite Control Network Contract (SCNC) Operational Switch Replacement (OSR) equipment systems and test bed platforms. Provided technical program management support by serving as Earned Value Management System (EVMS) Manager and a Customer Account Manager (CAM) on several AFSCN projects and controlled the budget and schedule of the Depot Maintenance Group.

Traveled to customer facilities and led installations of Cisco Systems hardware and IOS upgrades, performing network diagnostics of copper and optical connectivity issues, on DS3 and ATM backbones, topology configurations, troubleshooting, verification and redundancy testing. Supported the deployment of Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) assets, replacing end-of-life devices and migration of end users to the new Ethernet network topology and troubleshooting and diagnose root cause outages on NMCI network. Traveled to customer facilities and led installations of Cisco network hardware and upgrades of IOS. Facilitated integration efforts of the AT&T and Cingular backbone network migration, traveling to various locations to install Cisco 7600s integrating the two diverse networks.

As a Software System Engineer III and part of the implementation team, working closely with architecture design team to build-out and support the core intranet backbone. Using knowledge of software such as HP Open View, Solar Winds, and Net X-ray, as well as end-of-life topologies such as Token-ring, FDDI, and Thick-net, led the upgrade effort to Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gig-E. Led configuration efforts coordinating field support personal, Regional Bell assets to integrate test and validate new long haul back-bone transmission lines to include ISDN, T-1, and DS-3 for deployment of new services. Working extensively with Cisco Systems routers and switches to design, configure, and installation T-1 lines for small office solutions and build-out of LAN services. Major back-bone transmission sites received Cisco Systems 6500’s and 7600’s catalyst switches with OC-12 connectivity. Provided a key role in upgrading of Data Center infrastructure management support platform and capacity planning for future build-outs, as well as redesign and decommissions of legacy end-of-life network gear. This included analyzing of monthly utilization reports, traffic logs, and security logs to verify Data Center operations.

Software System Engineer II working support and maintenance of the remote access system using Cisco Systems 5200 and 5300 routers, supporting a system with over 33,000 customers and 5,000 modems online, averaging over 4 million user minutes a day. Due to a sharp growth rate, the platform incurred millions of dollars a year from off-network 800 number charges. Recognizing these ballooning costs, developed implementation of an aggressive plan to build out local access numbers in key regions across the nation. In less than 6 months, 28 local access numbers were in place, saving the company $6.1M in access. By the end of 12 months, over 50 local access numbers were established in 3 countries with a cost savings of over $35M a year in access charges. To further consolidate operating costs with over 3,500 locations operating on ISDN with Cisco 776, 800, and 804 routers, helped lead implementation of a call-back policy to further eliminate charges. Consolidation and migrating users from two other platforms within the company and consolidation of help-desk staff further reduced the operational budget.
